Celebrating death, as life.

Always a rebellious master on wings, Osho's way of doing things never supported the conventional orthodox pattern of the society. His ideas were such that they always created conflict amongst the orthodoxies while also throwing rays of revolution on neo-thinkers and philosophers. One such idea that Osho gave, which broke conventions, was to celebrate death as life.

On 19th January Osho's Mahparinirwan Diwas or the day Osho left his body was celebrated throughout communes and centers in Nepal. At Osho Tapoban the high spirits  of merriment reminded the celebrations that used to be made in the physical presence of the master, this time with his omnipresence. The day started with devotional songs and Dynamic meditation which was later followed by celebrations and kirtans sung by sannyasins themselves. During the celebration Swami Anand Arun shared about his experiences with the master and also threw light over how Osho is coming to life in the 21st century through his meditation techniques, books and the neo-sannyas movement. A silent meditation session was also organized at the decorated Osho Samadhi in Tapoban. The day concluded with five friends taking initiation into Osho neo-sannyas.  An album of devotional songs was also released on this occasion.

Osho rises from his ashes in Nepal (The Press Trust of India Interviews Swami Anand Arun.)

Many media men seem to have realized the importance of spirituality over politics as camera and press has been continuously following Swami Anand Arun and his activities. After the talk show 'Bahas' with Indra Lohani last month, Swamiji's caravan of spiritual wisdom was again frequented by media personnel during the Raipur camp in India. Following this, Swamiji was once more visited by media after he returned to Nepal. The Press Trust of India interviewed Swami Anand Arun about the Osho movement in Nepal and throughout the world that is miraculously coming to life through Swamiji's undying efforts. In this interview titled "Osho rises from his ashes in Nepal" the PTI   approaches different phases and facets of the Osho movement throughout the world. The interview also deals with queries regarding the assumptions and pre-conceived notions about Osho and the controversies that surround them.

"Almost two decades after he died, leaving behind a legacy of controversies and disputes, Indian godman Osho aka Bhagwan Rajneesh has risen, phoenix-like, from his ashes in Nepal, a country he visited just once." - PTI

The 3 day camp travels, Raipur, Puri and Tapoban

Raipur, India- More than 200 sannyassins and friends gathered at Raipur in Chattisgad, India, to attend the 3 day Osho meditation camp conducted by Sw Anand Arun from 28th of December. With participants from diverse backgrounds the camp was a spiritual workshop of myriad experiences and transference. Many new friends were introduced to Osho's meditation techniques which helped them immerse into deep silence. On the 3rd day as the energy culminated to a single-pointed spirituality, 35 friends were initiated into Osho-neo sannyas.

Puri, India- After the Raipur camp, the next stop was Puri, India. The land of sunny beaches and spiritualism, Puri had a-lot to offer the participants of the camp. With more than 165 friends from throughout the world, the camp started on 11th of January. With many Osho meditation techniques being practiced, the most powerful was the prayer meditation as shared by the participants of the camp. The strong energy  engulfed all the partakers who had their own experiences to share from this land of temples and Samadhi of many Indian mystics. Apart from taking part in different techniques such as Dynamic, Kundalini, White Robe, Chakra-sound, Nadabrahma, the members of the camp also got the Tapobanopportunity to visit different spiritual sights such as the Jagannath Puri Temple and the Samadhi of Indianmystics, Yukteswar Giri and Totapuri.

Swami Anand Arun also inaugurated the construction of a new Osho commune in Bhubhaneswar. The camp concluded on day 3 with 19 friends being initiated into Osho-neosannyas.

Tapoban, Nepal- After travelling to Raipur and Puri the three day camp finally arrived home. As winter snuggled through the trees of Tapoban, many new and old friends were active taking part in different Osho meditation techniques. Under the guidance of Swami Anand Arun and Sw Saurabh, friends were introduced to different Osho techniques for the first time which they learnt with enthusiasm.  After the initiation of three new friends on the third day the participants had many things to take home from this commune, a mala to cherish, new friends and  much much love.

The Vista of Majesty, Osho's Samadhi in Tapoban

"It was a beautiful morning and as I came out I saw that everything was painted in November monsoon. The light showers of winter rain had drenched all, making the trees greener and the mud much browner. I felt invited to go to Osho's Samadhi and sit there below the raining sky that roofs it. Bowing down at the Shiva statue outside I took the narrow lane and entered the Samadhi through a short flight of stairs. And there it was, the vista of majesty, Osho's Samadhi."

Osho has talked many a times about the energy field at the Samadhi or the spiritual tomb of a mystic. In the book Beyond Psychology, Osho says, "Slowly, slowly in all the countries where spirituality has flowered, people became aware that something happens... So people have preserved things that were used by these people, or just have made memorials of their bodies. In India bodies are burned, but you will be surprised to know that the remains left after burning a body are called "flowers". Ordinary people's ashes are thrown into holy rivers, but enlightened people's "flowers" are preserved in Samadhis -- in beautiful marble memorials. Just to go and sit there is in itself a meditation."

Surrounded by the silent trees of the Nagarjuna forest, the Osho Samadhi at Tapoban stand's like a brave mountain of pink and white marble bordered by blue water that encircles it. The beautiful tree that grows out right in the middle of the triangular pyramid makes it a unique architecture second to none. When looked from above, a sannyassin flying in an airplane would surely recognize the architecture  as the symbol  used by Osho for book editions from Poona-I 1974-1981, a dot in a triangle in a nine-sided shape set in a circle. A vew of Tapoban and The samadhi can be seen from Google Maps here

Going around the Samadhi, one travels all the phases of Osho movement as the different signs engraved on the three marble surfaces of the pyramid in the middle remind of the different periods of the Neo-sannyass movement that started during the mid 60's from the open-air maidans of major India cities.  The first silver engraving opposite the entrance reads 'Acharya Rajneesh' in the Devnagari script with a symbol made of seven circles and a burning flame used by the master during the early days of the Osho movement. On the other surface are engraved 'Bhagwan Rajneesh' and the symbol of the two flying swans that represent the master and the disciple, which remind of the Rajneeshpuram days and the commune in America. As one moves further towards the right arrives at the third surface that speaks less but conveys much. Below the single flying swan on the backdrop of a setting sun that symbolizes utmost freedom, is inscribed, "OSHO Never Born Never Died Only Visited this Planet Earth between Dec 11, 1931 - Jan 19, 1990." The words, the mystic wanted engraved on his Samadhi after he left his body.

The heart of the Samadhi is the remains of Osho that lives inside the pyramid. Swami Anand Arun, the co-ordinator of Tapoban, has beautiful stories to tell regarding the construction of the Samadhi. He shares "I collected the flowers (Osho's bones and ashes) from the burning ghat after Osho's funeral and also received it from a fellow sannyassin who had collected it like me."

Retrospecting the situation back in 90's, immediately after Osho left his body, the idea of building Osho's Samadhi was beyond
comprehension. The Pune commune, presently known as the Osho Resort, perceived it as an act of rebellion while the local sannyassins were confused about Swami Arun's decision. Swami Arun recalls "When we planned to build Osho's Samadhi in Tapoban, many thought of it as way too abstract as we had no resources whatsoever. The whole commune shared a single bathroom and we had no access to the modern comforts that we have today." With a child like laughter he said, "I overheard a fellow sannyasin ridiculing me, "I'm not sure about Osho's Samadhi, but in the process, Arun's tomb will surely be built." He further said, "Even after we built the Samadhi many senior sannyassins condemned us and announced the Samadhi at Tapoban as invalid and fake for two Samadhis of the same master could not exist."

But after twenty years, Swami Arun's way too bizarre vision to build the Samadhi of his master has proven anything but invalid. After the demolition of Osho's picture and the elimination of the word 'Samadhi' from Osho's spiritual tomb in the Osho Resort, the only Samadhi that survives and facilitates spiritual seekers and Osho's sannyassins is the Osho Samadhi in Tapoban. The Press trust of India in it's article says it all well, "Almost two decades after he died, leaving behind a legacy of controversies and disputes, Indian godman Osho aka Bhagwan Rajneesh has risen, phoenix-like, from his ashes in Nepal, a country he visited just once"

The energy field that is formed by the Samadhi of an enlightened mystic acts like a blanket that engulfs and attracts all true seekers helping them to immerse deeper into themselves. The remains of an enlightened mystic are not just normal bones and ashes but an evidence and a documentation of that truth which lies hidden in the womb of the esoteric rather than on the surface of tangible mundanity. Sitting around Osho's Samadhi, a realization silently creeps in, there is much to float out but the essential can only be delivered in.

Osho's Quote of the month

Death is intense because it is not spread out -- it is in a single moment. Life has to pass one hundred years or seventy years, it cannot be so intense. Death comes in a single moment; it comes whole, not fragmentary. It will be so intense you cannot know anything more intense.

Joke of the month

Suid's Cartoon
It happened that Mulla Nasruddin came to me one day. He was very much worried and he said, 'Ah, poor Mr. Jones. Did you hear, Osho, what happened to him? He tripped at the top of the stairs, fell down the whole flight, banged his head and died.'
Shocked, I said, 'Died?'
'Died,' he repeated with emphasis, 'and broke his glasses too!'
