HAPPY NEW YEAR, 2008.

Year 2007 concludes as Osho Tapoban still marches with its alarming pace towards becoming the global hub for all Osho sannyassins and lovers. The achievement marked by Tapoban this year has crossed all boundaries and continuum from making it remarkable to exceptional. The launching of the annual magazine, construction of modern accommodation facilities, beautification of the communes architecture, installment of the VSAT with live broadcast of the sannyass celebration and of all the other things the overflowing wave of maroon colored sannyassins and Osho lovers to Tapoban prove that Oshos movement of neo-sannyass that was almost dead is vivaciously coming to life in this land of the Himalayas.  The masters energy that is manifesting itself in many forms is more vibrant in the 2nd generation sanyassins that haven’t seen him but have been touched by his energy, the energy that dazzles in their malas, their dance of gratitude and their radiant smile.

Wishing this smile an eternal existence and expansion we all wish you a very proserpous and meditative New Year, 2008.

Swami Anand Arun in Bahas the argument with Indra Lohani, Kantipur TV.

This month the popular Nepali channel, Kantipur TV, invited Swami Anand Arun to its famous show "Bahas". In the show Mr. Indra Lohani, the famed talk show celebrity, interviewed Swamijee about Osho, his vision and the different facets and periods of Osho movement throughout the world and Nepal. The interviewer not only appreciated Swamijees efforts and devotion towards spreading Oshos message internationally and nationally but also raised different debatable questions related to Osho and his vision which Swami Anand Arun tackled proficiently. The interview received an astounding number of feedbacks from the general public, which merely revolved around the interviewers impatience to listen to Swami Anand Aruns answers.  In reference to the feedbacks, Swamijee has started writing a series of articles on "Samay", the national weekly, answering the same questions in a more elaborate form. Two series of these articles have already been published.

"I would like to thank Indrajee and Kantipur TV for shifting their cameras from politics for a while and focusing it on this sannyassin." – Swami Anand Arun.

A diverse oneness manifested. (THE DECEMBER CAMP)

The diverse colors and cultures of people that fuse at Tapoban every month for the three day Osho meditation camp is an amazing spectacle for all to see. As sannyasins and Osho lovers from different parts of different continents merge into a diverse oneness, the masters vision of "one world one humanity" seems to have manifested itself in its small version yet to become big.

The 3 day camp this month commenced with different active meditations being practised throughout the first day including Dynamic, Kundalini, Nataraj, Nadabrahma and the Celebrations. As the next day started with Yoga and Dynamic, the participants were introduced to other Osho passive meditations such as Chakra-sound and Vippassana, with other regular meditations such as Nadabrahma and Kundalini being practised the evening concluded with White Robe celebrations. The third day was an explosion of silence for the participants as they immeresed into deeper meditation experiences at the Osho samadhi and the Rajneesh Dhyan Mandir. The evening concluded with five new friends taking initiation into Osho neo-sanyass from Bodhisattva Swami Ananda Arun.

Third edition of Sant Darshan to be launched on 19th January.

The growing popularity and success of Swami Aruns book "Sant Darshan" has surprised all publishers and distributors in Nepal for it is the first time in history a spiritual book in Nepali has been received so well by the Nepalese readers. The first 2000 copies and 3000 copies from the first and second edition got sold out  and were out of the market just after 4 months and 8 months respectively after being published. After this wonderful success the 2000 copies of the book has again come out with a new cover and is going to be launched on the auspicious occasion of Oshos Mahaparinirvana Diwas at Osho Tapoban.

The book has already been published in Russian language and will soon come out in Hindi, English and other European languages. Sw Aruns Articles published in weekly and dailies can be found here

INVITATION: Oshos Mahaparinirwan Day Celebrations

"First, become the buddha. This is called nirvana. Then take a jump into the cosmos, and disappear into the blue sky. This is called mahaparinirvana -- the great enlightenment." - OSHO

On 19 January 1990, Osho left his body and attained Mahaparinirvana, the great enlightenment. Like every year this year also 19 January will be celebrated as Oshos Mahaparinirvana day at OSHO Tapoban and other Osho centres and communes throughout Nepal. All friends and sannyasins are invited to participate in the celebrations.

A traveller from Harvard stops at Tapoban. ( Interview with Jessica Benjamin)

Jessica Benjamin is a 22 year old traveller from America who recently graduated in Psychology from Harvard University. She is spending one year traveling in Tibet, Nepal, and India and has been living at Osho Tapoban for the past few weeks experimenting with different Osho meditation techniques. We sat down with her to discuss her experiences.

1.      How did you come to know about Osho and Tapoban?
I was doing a 10-day Vipassana course in Nepal and two girls there told me about this "Osho" place near Kathmandu. For me this year is about exploring and experiencing as many new things as I can, so a stay at Tapoban seemed only natural, but I really didnt know anything about it before I came. Now, of course, things are different…

2.      Tell me about your Osho experience so far?
I didnt come in with any expectations, just kind of left myself open to whatever might happen, and Im constantly awed by what does happen, even after only two weeks here. Im not sure how to verbalize, Im not sure that I can, much of it is beyond words. The people especially have been wonderful, really really warm and talkative and insightful, and the location itself is so calm yet charged, very conducive to meditating.

3.      You recently graduated from college, what are the differences between college life and a commune life?
For me college was more individualistic, no real community and somewhat of a spiritual void. Here its much, much different, and discussions dont involve as much frivolity and small-talk. Its also a lot quieter at Tapoban. My school was in a small city, so finding a quiet place to meditate was next to impossible, even in the middle of the night. The sharing, though, thats a common thread in both environments, although the content of the transference is variable.

4.      What are Western attitudes towards meditation and have you noticed any difference from Eastern attitudes?
There are two stories of meditations assimilation into Western culture. The most recent is a diluted, celebrity-driven movement that appeals to aesthetics more than it does to spirituality. The second story is only a half-century or so old. A few Western pioneers traveled to the East and brought back with them not only the knowledge and practices that would eventually take root in the West, but also the teachers, the true facilitators. The Dharma is migrating, meditation is migrating. Its catching on in the Western world, and as a consequence its changing, its adapting. This is inevitable, this is what needs to happen for an ancient tradition to make itself applicable and relevant to modern cultures and societies. But the Dharma itself, the essence of the meditation does not change, its nature is inviolable. What changes is how a collective cultural consciousness interprets it. Im fortunate to be in a unique position experiencing meditation as an indigenous phenomenon and then witnessing its nascency, or its tranformation, in the West.

5.      Can you speak on Western Psychology and Meditation?
There is a tendency in the West, especially in America, to seek out the quickest and most painless solutions to problems. In the field of psycholgy this manifests itself in the form of pills. Patients expect this type of treatment, and doctors feel pressured to provide it. The result is that we have a nation full of people who are unwell, who are spiritually and psychologically repressed, and theyre only being treated for the symptoms, not the core of the problem. Meditation reaches that core and cleanses the system, but its not an easy process. Its not a matter of going to the pharamcy and picking up a prescription, its a matter of committing yourself to yourself, to working through whatever is inside in order to reach that essential, untarnished Self. There is no way that pills can accomplish that.

6.      Whats your favorite Osho meditation and why?
Kundalini because I understand so little and feel so much. Also chakra breathing and chakra sound, just because. (laughs) (again laughs)

7.
You were doing Vippassana before you started doing Osho meditations, has Osho meditation helped in your Vipassana? If yes how?

I wouldnt say that Osho has helped, per se, in my Vipassana because theyre so different. Actually, no, theyre not so different. What I mean is that theyre two separate ways of going about the same thing. Both emphasize an ultimate no-mind state, and both both work with energy flow, but they go about these aims. in radically different ways. Theres no dancing in Vipassana, and theres no sitting for 11 hours a day in Osho (unless you feel like it), among other things. At this stage, Im enjoying both techniques. Ive experiences at Osho that I havent had doing Vipassana, and vice versa. Id like to continue experimenting with both,  and with other meditations as well. Theres still so much to learn.

Oshos Quote of the month
Thats why my sannyas is not a renunciation. My sannyas is not against anything; it is for the totality, for the whole.
Be rooted in the earth so that you can stretch to the sky; be rooted in the visible so that you can reach into the invisible. Dont create duality and dont create any antagonism. If I am against anything, I am against antagonism. I am against being against anything; I am for the whole, the complete circle.
Joke of the month
Once it happened: Mulla Nasruddin told me that he was thinking of divorcing his wife. I asked, Why? Why so suddenly?
Nasruddin said, I doubt her fidelity towards me.
So I told him, Wait, I will ask your wife.
So I told his wife, Nasruddin is talking around town and creating a rumor that you are not faithful, and he is thinking of divorce, so what is the matter?
His wife said, This is too much. Nobody has ever insulted me like that -- and I tell you, I have been faithful to him dozens of times!
